Surprising Results

I got some interesting print results recently...

ちょっとおもしろいプリントを紹介します。

Local Nara.

These shots were taken with the film called "Ferrania Solaris 100" which is the series of 35mm colour negative films made by the Italian company Ferrania. I didn't use this film when I first bought it and kind of kept it for back up or emergency use.

When I finally loaded it, I knew the expiry date had passed but I used it anyway as it was the only film I had spare at that time. I sent it to be developed at the lab I used regularly. When I received the prints there was a little note with it saying "You might have forgotten to remove the yellow filter on your lens?!" My answer was...no.

今回載せた写真は、"Ferrania Solaris 100"というイタリアのメーカーのカラーネガフィルムで撮影したものです。もういつどこで購入したのかも覚えていないけど、常備しているフィルムが切れた時の予備としてずっと持っていました。

ようやくカメラにセットした頃には、フィルムの使用期限も過ぎてしまっていたけど、他に持ち合わせのものがなかったので使ってみました。撮影済みのフィルムをいつもお世話になっていたラボに郵送すると、仕上がったプリントにはメモが添えられて届きました。。。”黄色フィルターをレンズから取り外すの忘れてしまったのですかね？”と。答えは”ノー”でした。。。

To write this post I have done some quick research about this film. It seems it is a popular choice for Lomography. Described as "an awesome film with a slight hue of yellow"...but I have not yet seen any examples that have come out quite as yellow as the shots I have here...

今回の投稿を書くにあたって、このフィルムについてちょっと調べてみると、どうやらロモグラフィーで使用するのに人気なことが分かり、このフィルムについても、”黄色がかった色合いを持つ素晴らしいフィルム”との説明がされていました。とはいえ、撮影例の写真を見てみても、ここで紹介したものほど黄色が強調されている写真は見当たりませんでしたが。。。

I kind of like the nostalgic effect that the out of date film has given these shots. I don't think I will get a similar result even if I used the same film again. These kind of unexpected and surprisingly pleasant results are one of the many reasons that I enjoy using analog cameras.

この使用期限切れのフィルムがもたらしたノスタルジックな風合いも、まあまあ好きかなと。仮に同じフィルムを使って撮影したとしても同じような結果は出ないように思います。こういう予期せぬ、うれしい驚きの結果に出会えることがアナログの醍醐味のひとつ。
